‘Duseok’, a traditional material widely used during Joseon Dynasty, is a form of copper alloy made by fusing zinc into copper.
It is more malleable and easier to handle than pure copper or steel, and the quality of its beautiful lustrous colour is reminiscent of gold and silver.
Because of these characteristics, it was once widely used for various artefacts, such as ornaments for clothes, objects for rituals, and military weapons.

Today, as traditional lifestyle and craft slowly become obsolete, the role of ‘duseokjang’ has waned over time.

The traditional craft techniques, tools and methods have lost their historical basis, and are on the edge of extinction.

Auroi's 'Duseok Heritage' line seeks to reinterpret 'Duseok' not merely as an ornamentation for furniture but as an independent craftwork.

We continue to study the past and work closely with the traditional craftsmen to rediscover Korea's historical asset in a contemporary language.
